  • Instituto Innovare Award
    Dec/2021
    Tribute granted by the Instituto Innovare, for the idea of Fogo Cruzado, which was placed second in the Justice and Citizenship category at the 18th Prize. Since its creation in 2004, the Innovare Award has been working to identify and highlight initiatives that bring innovation and contribute to the improvement of justice. Innovare and Datafolha consultants individually verify the selected works.
  • Cláudio Weber Abramo Award for Data Journalism
    Nov/2021
    Finalist with the video report 'The 'sausage car' and other massacres on wheels that exterminate the periphery and the government ignores'. Cláudio Weber Abramo Award recognizes the best data journalism works in the country. In addition to encouraging government transparency practices and the use of open data in the public interest, the aim of the award is also to inspire journalists and students to use data in their investigations.
  • OJAs – Online Journalism Awards
    Oct/2020
    Finalist in the Feature category, with "Shell Shocked," an innovative multimedia project published in The Intercept in which we collected bullet casings around Rio de Janeiro to track the origins of munitions used in Rio de Janeiro's armed conflicts and highlight the failures of arms control. The project relied on data from Fogo Cruzado.

    Associate(s) with The Intercept Brasil. Finalist in the “Race on the Agenda” category. The Award seeks to recognize the main names and initiatives that work in favor of Racial Equality in Brazil.
  • Sigma Data Journalism Awards 2020

    Finalist in the open data category, in recognition of Fogo Cruzado's API and open data work on armed violence in Rio de Janeiro and Recife.
  • Gabo Prize for Journalism 2019
    Oct/2019
    My colleagues and I were finalists for the Gabo Prize for the multimedia "Death of a Rio Cartel" project published in The Intercept, in which we told the story of the rise and fall of the "Friends of Friends" gang, one of the most powerful in Rio. The research was based largely on data from Fogo Cruzado. The Gabo is the most important journalism prize in Latin America.

  • AMAERJ Patrícia Accioli Prize for Human Rights
    Nov/2018
    The Association of Magistrates of Rio de Janeiro State awarded Fogo Cruzado third place in the humanistic practices category for its work on tracking and mapping armed violence in Rio and promoting accountability. The prize is named after the famous judge Patrícia Accioli who was murdered by a paramilitary militia for her fearless work of holding criminal gangs accountable.
  • Atlas of Innovation for Economic Stability
    May/2018
    Associated with Fogo Cruzado. Fogo Cruzado was highlighted as one of the most innovative initiatives in the world in the publication “Atlas of Innovation for Economic Stability”, by FHI 360 (The Science of Improving Lives), funded by the Rockefeller Foundation, in the USA. In all, 63 initiatives were listed that use technology and data as tools that promote stability for people, communities and countries. Brazil was highlighted due to its vulnerability in public security, of which Rio de Janeiro has been a great example.
